Junagadh is a town of historical importance. It is situated at the foot of the celebrated mount Girnar. The town junagadh derives its name from the old fortress situated in the uparkot (Citadel) . The uparkot forms the ancient Junagadh, which was named Mustafabad by Mahmud Begada Somnath Temple-The temple has been built and destroyed six times. The present structure was rebuilt the seventh time. There a number of legends attached to the Somnath Temple of India. It is said that the Moon God, Chandra was married to 27 daughters of Daksh Prajapati, but he favored Rohini. The Mahabat Maqbara mausoleum is a late nineteenth century (1892) Muslim tomb Center of the city Jain Holy Hill and Temple complex, Mount Girnar.
